Paperless Library

Annapolis, Md.-based ARINC has introduced eFlyBook, an electronic library for storing and displaying en-route charts and other documents on a 6-by-9-inch screen. Intended for the general aviation market, the device holds all U.S. terminal procedures, en-route charts, airport facility directories and Federal Aviation Regulation/Airmen's Information Manual information. There is also space for custom user documents. The eFlyBook uses persistent display technology to reduce power and backlighting requirements. The ARINC device incorporates chart viewing and compression software developed by MyAirplane.com and the iLiad eReader designed by iRex Technologies of the Netherlands.

pilots.

Leading Aviation Supplier Edmo Will Distribute the ARINC eFlyBook™ Document Viewer

eFlyBook combines two revolutionary technologies: award-winning chart viewing software developed by MyAirplane.com, and a slim, portable “iLiad” eReader, developed and manufactured by iRex Technologies of the Netherlands. The clear display shows enroute charts and other essential documents on a glare-free screen that remains highly legible in bright sunlight or under red cockpit lights at night.

More Competition for Amazon's Kindle: Barnes & Noble Partners With Irex

Today, Barnes & Noble announced that it has partnered with Irex Technologies, a Dutch eReader manufacturer. B&N will sell Irex's new, consumer-focused device in it's stores and online later this year. B&N already signed a deal with Plastic Logic earlier this year. Irex already offers a number of different eReaders in its store, but this device looks to be specifically designed to take on the Kindle.

Just got an image of a mock-up for a new e-Reader from Irex that's due out this holiday season. Not much info on this thing but it's larger than the Kindle 2 and just-announced Sony Readers.

Here's the little we know:

  • 8.1-inch display
  • 3G wireless connectivity (no carrier announced)
  • Touch screen with stylus navigation
  • Fall 2009 release

Bringing the newspaper medium into the digital age

Although all modern newspapers are available on-line, the paper copy that can be tucked under the arm and read virtually anywhere still holds a lot of attractions. Recognizing this fact, Philips Applied Technologies took a completely new look at the newspaper medium and how we use it. This led to the development of the E-reader for iRex Technologies. The E-reader is a true digital replacement for the paper newspaper offering all the convenience of this classical news medium and a lot else besides.
